#NameYourCarDay

PETUNIA

Today, I celebrate another “pet.” My Petunia. She is a 1991 Volvo 240DL - and presently ailing. Nothing gets me more frazzled than when this darling has a seizure. I love her; built like a tank. (What do they say about owners resembling their pets—it better not be true about cars). It is also a good thing I am no longer young and foolish. She is the only fire-engine red Volvo in town. Everyone knows her; hence they always know where I am (no dilly-dallying for me).

Monday night, I parked in my garage as usual, then got up bright and early Tuesday morning, ready to drive to the gym—to walk. Couldn’t shift out of “park.” None of the “Googled” solutions worked. Good thing my mechanic makes house calls—even though, in Arkansas, “right away” means “not quite right away - but soon.” (If you are lucky.) He finally got it so that I could drive it to his shop, parking it in “neutral.” (Yes, guys, I did set the handbrake.) I am now marooned for a few days awaiting a new shift lever.

Of course, I could always WALK the two miles to the gym to go and walk my usual two miles there...

  1. But then your Volvo wouldn't get any exercise! You're a good old car owner.

    1. I like your thinking!
And here is to hoping your "old" refers to the car (still vain enough).

  2. Hope your car is returned fixed to you soon! Hee to walking 2 miles to the gym to do your walk! You could walk half way then turn back!

    1. You just burst my perfect excuse-bubble!
As to "Petunia," no joy! I don't know anything about cars-but I do good research. Hence, I wrote out the most likely problem (with part numbers) for the mechanic: Solenoid or Microswitch (whatever they are)...
Noooo -- he fiddled for three days with the shift lever...then said that it is either the Solenoid or the Microswitch, or both...so he ordered them Friday...Now, I am stuck at home again until next week. Just as well. Need to write--and stay out of humid heat of 100 degrees. Pjuhhh, got that off my chest. Pasha loves me cradling him all day long...

    2. PS -- for those of you just stopping by: Pasha is my great cat for whom this blog was created (I am off the subject of the mechanic!)

  3. The Hubby is my car mechanic, and if anything starts going wrong with my car that he cannot fix, he buys me a new 'used' car, and he takes over my old one. However, I simply LURV my 2-door 23-year-old Honda Civic Hatchback, and he's making noises about taking it and finding something else for me. That wee car is too adorable; I've named it "The Cat Car".
