Celebrating Rings and Circles

The first rings that caught my attention were the Olympic Rings. You see, I happened to work for the Austrian Olympic Committee at one of the Innsbruck Winter Games. No, not the ones some of you can remember. I am talking about the earlier ones (now you are doing the math, right?). With the Sochi Games quickly approaching, I am reminded again how important a symbol those rings are as they stand for excellence, teamwork and peace.

Despite my aforementioned fondness for rings (and that includes the ones holding precious stones), there are those that baffle me. They are the Google Circles. Many nice people have “put me into their Circle.” To date, I have not reciprocated as I am hesitant to “click willy-nilly,” without understanding what all this does – for me, for them and the last thing I would want to do is to annoy “my Circle” every time I type something...

Now, I guess I better google the meaning of Google Circles.

  1. I don't understand the Google Circles either. I'm totally lost on Google+ and don't have the energy to try to figure it out.

That must have been such an interesting experience to be involved in the Olympics!

  2. I'm another who doesn't understand them. Olympic rings, however, are another story. I can remember being a kid and watching Nadia Comaneci win the gold and score the first 10. Now, I have to go Google Innsbruck.....

  3. Must have been amazing and interesting to be involved in the Olympics. Love the rings symbol. I was at a rehearsal for the London opening ceremony and seeing the gold versions of the rings brought in over my head was amazing.

  4. Thanks, everyone, for commenting. To call my Olympic stint merely interesting would be taking away from the experience: It was CRAZY! We worked from seven AM to two AM - then, of course, we had to go for a glass of wine or two to simmer down...back to the dorm, up at six...and so it went. I had just returned from Moscow and trundled into Innsbruck with my little suitcase in hand to ask it they needed a tri-lingual hostess...Too many of those. Can you type, they asked. Yup. Plus shorthand in all three languages...There was a "little old man" coming from Vienna...he needed an assistant. Gee, ok, I said. Turned out, he was the Secretary General of the Austrian Olympic Committee. He was IT. I had fallen into a great job...story of my life. Should write that down one of these days.
